First Response Emergency Care (FREC 4)

APMS are delighted to be working with QUALSAFE in order to deliver superb, high quality, interactive and outstanding standards of training; leading to recognised qualifications across the UK. The (FREC4) course is the next step for those who have completed the QA Level 4 Certificate in First Response Emergency Care (RQF).


This qualification provides students with a wider scope of practice in pre-hospital care emergencies, allowing for greater expansion of knowledge and skills. As this QA continues to form part of a progressive suite of prehospital care qualifications, Students who wish are able to continue through the (QUALSAFE) modules aiming to achieve a QA Level 6 Diploma in Paramedic Practice (RQF).

The QA Level 4 Certificate in First Response Emergency Care (RQF) is regulated and nationally recognised, comprising of pre-hospital care qualification specifically designed for those looking to progress their career, either, within the NHS or private ambulance services; where their role may be as an emergency care assistant, intermediate ambulance practitioner, event medical provider, associate practitioner or healthcare assistant.


It is also ideal for those who are looking to work within specialist roles in the military, police and fire services. 

APMS support the re-qualification course, for those who have already completed a First Person on Scene Intermediate (FPOSi) qualification and are due to requalify/re-new. However it must be noted that students cannot attend a level 4 training session without obtaining their level 3 first.As aforementioned the grouping of the (FREC) courses allows students to adopt continuous learning (where required), allowing them to achieve QA Level 6 Diploma in Paramedic Practice (RQF) where students wish to fund/or have their learning progression funded.

The FREC 4 provides a solid foundation for the learner to be competent to deal with a wide range of medical and trauma situations in the prehospital environment, completion of a FREC 3 must have been completed before enrolment on this course, and is suitable for but not limited to:


Event first aiders
Fire fighters
Police fire arms and medics
Close protection operative: this qualification is recognised by the Security Industries Authority (SIA)
Expedition Leaders UK and overseas
Journalists working overseas
Researchers working overseas
Film Crews working in remote areas
Aid workers in hostile or disaster prone countries
Community Responders in the UK
High risk work environments in the UK and overseas
Offshore workers

Enrolment on the course can be done via our website by completing the training request document, or by calling our staff to discuss your needs.


However, when your students attend the venue of your choice they MUST BE ABLE TO PROVIDE PHOTOGRAPHIC IDENTIFICATION for FULL enrolment, those who fail to provide this documentation will not be allowed to start, and will be unable to enrol as per (QUALSAFE GUIDELINES).

During the course students will Fulfil the competencies set out in the PHEM skills framework at descriptor level E, this fantastic qualification which provides students with the knowledge, skills and competencies needed to be able to deal with a wide range of pre-hospital care emergencies.


These include, major incidents, fracture immobilisation, sick and injured children, mental health issues and more.

Already having the knowledge from a (FREC 3 course), Students must undertake 4 x Skills tests and continuous formative assessment conducted throughout the course.

At the first stage this will be checked and verified by the trainer to ensure students completion is to an acceptable standard; which is likely to be passed by (QUALSAFE); all skill exams and written documentation shall be checked by our trainer, when satisfied FULL acceptable assessments shall then be sent to (QUALSAFE) for further verification and certification.


It is therefore imperative that students are able to have full mobility, flexibility and are able to kneel and carry out rigorous tasks.


APMS are happy to discuss the practical assessments required by students’ ensuring their abilities are likely to aid a PASS.

APMS trainers will provide as much support (within our identified limitations), The course criteria MUST be met on a daily basis, lateness to the course and/or nonattendance may lead to students failing to qualify.


APMS strongly recommend that any student put forward for the course is free from all commitments for the duration of the course, this will help ensure that the success rate of your students is not compromised, and full commitment can be given.

Payment for courses MUST be made in advance, we require a full list of student details (this shall be explained further during the booking process), however, NAMES CANNOT BE CHANGED, this is due to our registration processes agreed with (QUALSAFE).

Prices quoted are inclusive of VAT, within this price your student will receive a Lesson Plan, Practical Assessment Sheets, Multiple Choice Question Papers and a Guide to Assessing Pre-hospital Qualifications. Successful Learners will receive a QA Level 3 Certificate in First Response Emergency Care (RQF) certificate personalised with their Centre’s/employers details.

Please note, the additional discount is for a group of 10 students, should the total number of students be less than 10, then the individual fee will apply. Unfortunately, once registered, names are non-transferable, therefore no refunds shall be authorised. APMS must receive full payment for the course at least 3 working days before the training date.


APMS will supply all necessary equipment to ensure that students are able to fulfil their training needs without compromise.
